Engineering Services
How It Works
DIXON provides comprehensive engineering services for all of our storage tank and coating projects.

Engineering Reports
Engineering reports typically includes detailed documentation of the assessment, repairs, and improvements made to an existing water tank.

Technical Specifications
When rehabilitating water tanks, technical specifications cover a range of considerations to ensure efficiency, functionality, and when adhered to, ensure the lifespan of the water tank.

Drawings
Drawings for safety upgrades, regulatory compliance, and door sheets for tank entry are just a few examples of drawings by DIXON.

Bidding & Contract Documents
Preparation from contract documents, assistance with the bidding process, advertising, to awarding the project.

Submittal Review
Evaluation for compliance with project specifications, standards, regulations, and design prior to being implemented in the project.

Structural Analysis
Perform comprehensive structural analysis to assess the impact of antenna installations on the tank’s integrity.

Engineering Reports
Our engineering team evaluates the structure, develops methods, and material options for rehabilitation, and prepares a comprehensive report with analysis of relevant alternatives and budget estimates.
Technical Specifications
After meeting with the Owner to review the preliminary inspection report, budget limitations, and specification requirements for the project, DIXON uses the appropriate industry standards, regulations, and our extensive experience to prepare comprehensive CSI formatted plans, technical specifications, and all required bidding documents to comply with municipal competitive bidding requirements.
Our in-house engineers, CAD designers, and support staff prepare specifications for dust containment systems, surface preparation, coating applications, structural repairs, and public health and safety upgrades.
Specifications are considered complete only after a thorough review process, wherein the owner and their appointed project manager evaluate the finalized document. This review serves as a crucial checkpoint, ensuring that all elements align with the owner’s vision and requirements. It is only after obtaining the necessary approvals that the specifications are deemed finalized, paving the way for the subsequent phases of the project.

Drawings
DIXON works with the contractor to develop solutions for temporary construction activities such as exterior containment and temporary door sheets that meet specific project and site requirements.
DIXON provides drawings for specific tank components including sidewall manways, roof handrails, roof vents, overflow pipes, etc. All drawings are site specific and follow local regulations as well as appropriate American Water Works Association (AWWA) Standards and best practices.
Bidding & Contract Documents
DIXON has developed comprehensive bid documents and has a support staff dedicated to preparing and distributing bid documents. DIXON uses the appropriate industry standards, regulations, and our extensive experience to prepare comprehensive CSI formatted plans, specifications, and all required bidding documents to comply with Owner bidding requirements.
Dixon will advertise the specifications to select plan rooms and numerous contractors. Dixon will post the specifications to a Software as a Service (SaaS) where contractors can download the bidding documents. Dixon will provide a bid tab for the bid opening. Once bids have been opened and reviewed, Dixon will complete a Recommendation Letter and provide a Notice of Award. If Dixon is completing the Contract Documents, the contractor will forward the Bonds and Insurance and Dixon will put the Contract Documents together for signature after everything is received and will also complete a Notice to Proceed. Our project managers routinely attend and lead pre-bid meetings.

Submittal Review
Our team of industry experts thoroughly review submittals for all DIXON designed projects. Submittals are reviewed for compliance with the specification requirements and a status of “Accepted”, “Accepted with Comments”, “Rejected with Comments”, or “Reviewed for Information” is provided.
Detailed documentation and communication are key in the reviewal process. Our evaluation assures the products and services meet or exceed industry standards to provide the best quality & protection for the lifespan of the tank. But we’re not limited to just our designed projects. We also provide guidance to other engineering firms for products and services related to tank maintenance and design.
Structural Analysis
DIXON performs all matters of structural analysis on tanks, ranging from rooftop handrail antenna installations on a spheroid water storage tank to analyzing an underground concrete antenna roof for additional loading.
All analyses are performed in accordance with local regulations, the appropriate AWWA Standards, and current best practices. The primary focus is to improve the functionality of a water tank while ensuring that the asset continues to perform for many years.
